Common mistakes

Filling out the Dekalb County Water Application form can seem straightforward, but many people make common mistakes that can delay the process. One frequent error is providing incorrect personal information. Ensure that your name, address, and contact details are accurate. A small typo can lead to significant delays in processing your application.

Another mistake often made is failing to include all required documentation. The application may require proof of residency or identification. Missing these documents can result in your application being returned or rejected. Always double-check the requirements before submission.

Many applicants overlook the importance of signing the form. A signature is often required to validate the application. Without it, the form may be considered incomplete. Make it a habit to review the entire form, including the signature line, before sending it in.

Some people forget to provide a current email address or phone number. This contact information is essential for communication regarding your application status. If you miss this step, you may miss important updates or requests for additional information.

Additionally, applicants sometimes fail to read the instructions carefully. Each section of the form may have specific guidelines. Ignoring these can lead to errors that could have been easily avoided. Take the time to read through the instructions thoroughly.

Another common oversight is not checking for any outstanding balances on previous water accounts. If you have an unpaid balance, it may affect your ability to establish a new account. Clear any outstanding debts before applying to avoid complications.

Submitting the application without verifying all information is another mistake. It is crucial to review the entire application for accuracy. Mistakes can lead to delays and may even require you to start the process over.

Finally, many applicants fail to keep a copy of their submitted application. This can be problematic if you need to reference it later. Always make a copy for your records to ensure you have all the information you need at hand.
